Abstract In this paper, multi-fuzzy set is studied and some inconsistencies observed in its operation are addressed. Symmetric difference and its algebraic properties in multi-fuzzy sets were also formulated. Moreover, n-level fuzzy set of Multi-fuzzy sets andn-upper level fuzzy set of Multi-fuzzy sets were introduced and some related results established.
