UTILIZATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL MATHEMATICS CONCEPTS IN PROMOTING DIGITAL ECONOMY AMONG PUBLIC AND PRIVATE WORKERS IN SOUTH-EAST GEO-POLITICAL ZONE, NIGERIA

The study investigated the utilization of secondary school mathematics concepts in promoting digital economy among public and private workers in South-East Geo-political zone, Nigeria. Two research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population of workers(Public and Private) in the South-East Geo-political zone, Nigeria is approximately 7 million (National Bureau of statistics, 2010). 300 workers (150 public and 150 private) were sampled using stratified sampling technique. 20 - Items questionnaire on four point Likert rating scale was face validated by three experts. Reliability co- efficient of 0.75 was obtained using Cronbach Alpha. Data Collected were analyzed with mean, standard deviation and t-test at 0.05 level of significance. Result showed that public and private workers use Mathematics concepts like basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, compound and simple interest, profit and losses, geometry, trigonometric ratio graph, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, and probability in business transaction to promote digital economy. Both public and private workers use e- mail, facebook, blog, instagram, twitter, mobile app, websites, LinkedIn, Google Maps and YouTube in promoting digital economy. It was recommended among others that members of the society should have positive conception and belief about studying mathematics, workers should be ICT compliance and cashless policy should be adopted for quick money transfer during business transactions.
