MATHEMATICS EDUCATION: IMPLICATIONS FOR AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT IN ENUGU STATE OF NIGERIA.

Abstract This study examined mathematics education and its implications for agricultural development in Enugu State. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The sample size for the study consists of 280 farmers randomly sampled from the population. Three research questions guided the study. The instrument used for data collection was Famers Knowledge of Concepts of Measurement, Percentage and Conversion (FKCMPC) questionnaire which was developed by the researchers. The reliability index of the instrument was gotten as 0.83 using Chrobach Alfa formular. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The results revealed that knowledge of measurement; percentage and conversion to/from metric units are relevant for enhancing agricultural activities. Thus, the researchers recommended among others that farmers should be educated through agricultural extension programmes on the needs for measurement in agricultural activities.
