Abstract This study investigated the Impact of Student Teams-Achievement Divisions (STAD) Strategy on trigonometric performance and retention among secondary school students in Katsina State, Nigeria. Non-randomized pre-test, post-test and post post-test quasi control group design was used for this study. The population of the study was 26,431 and a sample of 110 students was selected using stratified simple random sampling technique involving balloting method from the two (2) sample schools. Four (4) research questions were formulated and answered using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and four (4) hypotheses were also formulated and tested using t-test statistic at 5% level of significant. Trigonometry Performance Test (TPT) was used as an instrument for data collection. Result revealed that, there were significant differences in the mean performance and retention scores of students taught trigonometry using STAD Strategy and lecture method and among gender. To that end, it was recommended that: (i) Training programmes, seminars and workshops should be organized for mathematics teachers in secondary schools on how to use STAD Strategy in their teaching. (ii) Additional research should be conducted in terms of performance of taught concept when STAD strategy is applied. (iii) Students should be encouraged to appreciate the gains in STAD Strategy since it enhances their performance.
