ITEM PARAMETERS OF ITEM RESPONSE THEORY (IRT) IN MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION: A CHALLENGE TO TEST DEVELOPERS IN NIGERIA

Abstract Test developments that measure the facets of learning with precision and accuracy in education have been a major task in academic setting in Africa. The scales used to measure achievement rely on classical test theory (CTT) approach. This has been faulted since it yields different results when different samples of subjects from same population or different samples of items from the same pool are selected. Due to this shortcoming, this paper presents the item parameters of Item Response Theory IRT) in measurement and evaluation as an alternative to CTT approach.
