INVESTIGATING MATHEMATICS TEACHERS? INTEGRATION OF MOBILE TECHNOLOGY FOR MATHEMATICS TEACHING IN PORT HARCOURT METROPOLIS

Abstract This study investigated mathematics teachers? integration of mobile technology for mathematics teaching in Port Harcourt metropolis of Rivers State. Descriptive research design was adopted in carrying out this study. The population of the study was all public senior secondary school mathematics teachers in Port Harcourt metropolis. A total of One hundred and twenty (120) mathematics teachers were used as a sample for the study which comprises seventy-four (74) male and forty-six (46) female. Three research questions guided the study. The data were analyzed using frequency counts and percentages. A structured questionnaire named mathematics teachers? integration of mobile technology (MTIMT) was the instrument used for data collection, and the instrument was face validated by three experts. Reliability coefficient index of 0.76 was obtained using Pearson?s product moment correlation. The result revealed that most senior secondary school mathematics teachers in Port Harcourt metropolis do not integrate mobile technology in their mathematics teaching.Based on the result, it was recommended that the government and Parents Teachers Association (PTA) should organize extensive in-service training programs, seminars as well as workshops on a regular basis for mathematics teachers in senior secondary schools on how to integrate mobile technology for mathematics teaching.
